Sorrow for Cyn

I have this deep sympathy for Cynthia Lennon. Regardless of how much you may or may not like Yoko Ono, you have to admit that John did her wrong. He could have broke the news to her about Yoko in a much gentler way than to wait for her to come back from a holiday with friends to find him and Yoko in bathrobes eating breakfast in the home he shared with his wife. But really regardless of how she found it, she was going to be shattered. Even though she knew in her heart that John loved Yoko, there was no easy way to accept that truth. Two years ago today I found myself in the same situation that Cynthia Lennon found herself in in 1968. As a matter of fact, as I was trying to grasp the reality of my situation at that time I remember thinking to myself "Oh my gosh, now I know how Cynthia felt!" But life moves on and these tragedies of life keep us strong.

  1. I know a lot of people have adverse feelings about Cyn, especially since she kept "Lennon" as her last name. Also her book was poorly written (just saying..). But I sympathize with her so much. John and Cyn were always such an odd pair but I wish their relationship ended gentler. Hope your situation has been looking up.

  3. Anonymous not a fact,

according to Cynthia she wrote that the Greek geek Magic Alex tried to force himself onto her. She explained this in her book "John". Cynthia when on to say she felt Alex was instructed by John to try and have sex with his wife so that he could file for devorce on the grounds of infidelity, and so that he wouldn't have to pay out. She claims to have never had sex with Alex.

  4. I tend to believe Cynthia about Alex Mardas, rather than anyone else: the idea of him setting Cynthia up in order to curry favour with John Lennon and so make his divorce easier is all too credible.

Cynthia would have been a great life partner for Lennon, but blew it, destroying his personality with psychedelic drugs. She couldn't follow him down that road, and why should she? I don't blame her for keeping her first married name, as it's her professional calling card...maybe if Lennon had been a bit more generous with the divorce settlement (or if Cynthia had been a bit more stubborn over it), things might have been different.....though I can believe that she still carried a torch for him.

  5. Regardless if Cynthia and Alex had a fling (which I personally don't believe they did), coming home to and finding your spouse and another woman in bathrobes is an extremely awful thing to see. I am sure it is something that she has lived through in her mind over and over (as I have when I went through a very similar thing).

Many, many women keep their first husband's name. My aunt has been married and divorced twice and still keeps her first husband's name. My Grandmother does as well. Many women choose to keep the same last name as their children. Cynthia has a legal right to keep the "Lennon" name and I really dont' blame her.

I hope she truly has found happiness in the man she is currently married to. She deserves it.

  6. After my grandparents divorced, my grandmother kept her married name. At first she claimed it was for the children, which is pretty common so Cynthia may have felt that. But then her children grew up and living on their own, my grandmother continued to keep the last name. In fact, her tombstone has it. I remember asking her why she continued on with it now that her children were grown and she said it was because it's a beautiful last name. Plus, I always felt deep down in her heart she still loved my grandfather, as the love of her life.
