To be honest, I am not a big Yoko fan. I am not a Yoko hater by any means. And I have a great deal of respect for her because John had so much love for her and she also did for John. I also feel so bad for her, having lost the love of her life in such a tragic way and having to witness his death like that. I can't even imagine. I am sure it is difficult make the decisions about John's estate and while I haven't agreed with everything she has done, I do think that over all she has done a good job.
I am not a fan of Yoko's music or art in any way. I don't get it. I still believe that Yoko (along with other factors) were instrumental in the break-up of the Beatles. And I think when Yoko first arrived in John's life, she was mean. Have you ever heard about her stealing George's box of cookies in the studio? She did and said things that were uncalled for. But....you know that was a long time ago and I think she has mellowed out and has became a lot more gentle, especially after Sean was born.
That all being said, I will never understand why anyone things Yoko Ono is ugly. I think she is a very beautiful woman. Sure I have seen photos that weren't the best of her, but who doesn't have photos like that? Overall I think she is one of the most beautiful women. I will never understand why in the 1960's or today so many people complain about Yoko's looks.
I think this fan photo really shows how pretty Ms. Ono truly is.
LOL. Yoko didn't steal George's box of cookies. She helped herself to a single cookie from his box of them, and while it may indeed have been more appropriate for her to ask first, he flipped out and started screaming about how she was a "bitch." George is the asshole in that story, not Yoko.
ReplyDeleteShe also wasn't instrumental in the break up of the Beatles. And I've always been incredibly puzzled by those who know a lot about the Beatles still thinking as much. But even if she was, the Beatles breaking up is one of the best things that ever happened to either John or George personally.
I think Yoko (or maybe more exactly Yoko and Linda) were one of many factors that lead to the Beatles breaking up. Not that she did it on purpose, but it just was one of the causes that broke up the group. John was going in a different direction musical because of Yoko's influence in his life. By 1969 he had outgrown being a Beatle. And I agree...that isn't a bad thing. I love John's solo work.
ReplyDeleteMe too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DeleteAs much as I admire John as an artist....in his own way he kind of shoved his love for Yoko onto the other three especially in the studio. A good friend of mine was the sound engineer for Walls and Bridges & his telling of how 'cold' Yoko was during the entire sessions are sad to say the least.Yoko behaved like she was a queen & my friend didn't bow down to anyone, not even Yoko! Personally I had met her a long time ago at her invitation to have coffee at the Dakota. She was cordial enough, but got extremely irritated and downright mean when (quite by accident) I mentioned something nice about May Pang. Now considering that Yoko 'pushed John and May together',why would Yoko get all uptight about it after the fact. This was around 1983/84 when I met her.She really only smiles for the cameras when they are around, otherwise according to my good friend the sound engineer and myself, Yoko is not really 'nice', she pretends to be and she's good at doing it.In the years after 1980,Yoko has literally 'raped' the name of John Lennon to make more money. She's bastardized his artwork, his song lyrics, name it and she's selling it.Steinway pianos for over 100K! She's worth over $800 million, what more does she need or want? Besides let's never forget that she forbade Cynthia Lennon from accompanying her son Julian to NYC after the sad events of Dec 1980! WTF? Cynthia should have come anyway and fuck what Yoko had to say...There was a Mrs Lennon way before Yoko Ono stalked John...Yoko is cunning, devious and not nice!
ReplyDeleteThe Walls and Bridges sessions were during the Lost Weekend and thus Yoko would likely not be there since they were separated. Did your friend mean a different album or did he confuse Yoko with May Pang?
DeleteJohn was a headstrong man and wouldn’t have let Yoko break up the group if he didn’t want it to happen… He was already looking in that direction to get Paul’s attention and just used Yoko as a shield or wedge. He seemed like a bipolar man who had entered a depression and used Yoko as an escape from his life (divorce from his wife and his band).

DeleteIf Yoko had never met John, would the 4 of them have stayed together much longer than 9/69? Highly doubtful imo. Yoko's presence was a factor sure, but the piano was already falling down the steps before Yoko showed up.
ReplyDeleteIMO Klein was the real beginning of the end.
