You can see Tony Bramwell in these photos. He was the Beatles press guy for the 1966 tour. He must not remember being at this press conference or something....
There is this huge misconception that the Beatles last press conference was the one held in Los Angles in 1966. The one where the huge "Revovler" album was hanging behind them and Paul says that Day Tripper was written about lesbians. And while that is the most well-known 1966 press conference (after the Jesus statement one that is), it was not the last press conference. The last press conference the Beatles ever held as a group was in Seattle, Washington in 1966. At this press conference, there was this huge rumor that Paul was going to marry Jane Asher that night because someone pretending to be Paul McCartney was ordering wedding cakes and wedding stuff. So Paul spent much time saying how that is a false rumor. So...when you read in books (include Tony Bramwell...who was there!) how L.A. was the last Beatles group press conference, know that it is wrong. Seattle is the last one offically. Can you tell that I want to write a book about Beatles press conferences?
I am excited to find these photos of the Seattle '66 press conference for a number of reasons. First of all I am obsessed to no end with the Beatles 1966 tour. And because I have never seen color photographs from this press conference, so it is sort of nice to see exactly what they were wearing that day....
How can Seattle be the last Beatles press conference when they played at the Seattle Coliseum on August 25th, then played at Dodger Stadium on August 28th? Over to you Paul...
ReplyDeletethe guy with the shirt white and blue is paul !!! don´t you recognized him ???
ReplyDeleteHere was the schedule
ReplyDeleteAugust 22-23 NYC
August 24: Flew to L.A. and held press conference
August 25: Flew to Seattle and held press conference and concert and flew back to LA that night.
August 26-27: Relaxation days in Bel-Aire
August 28: Concert at Dodgers Stadium
And I thought the fellow in the blue and white looked like Paul. But Paul isn't wearing blue and white in the other photographs. So either that is not taken at the press conference or Paul quickly changed shirts.
The first photo it´s from the september 1964 tour !!
ReplyDeleteThe other 2 pics are from 1966.
Hi everyone - to hopefully settle the question of the first photo, that is George on the left, paul, and the flowered shirt blocked by the "photo" strip is John. This was taken in Seattle in August '64 at the Edgewater Hotel. I will be posting the full photos on my blog shortly.
ReplyDeleteI guess there is a woman on craigslist who would like those photos.
ReplyDeleteSee los angeles craigslist.
I looked on the L.A. CL site and didn't see anyone looking for Beatles photos....
ReplyDeleteThat's not Tony Bramwell.
ReplyDeleteoops....it is that auto correct thing. This is Tony Barrow and not Tony Bramwell. I typed in "Tony B" and since both Tony's are in my tags section, it filled it out for me. Funny that has been up for many years and you were the first one to catch the mistake. Thanks!! I am changing it right now.
DeleteHere's the Playlist of songs that the Beatles played in Seattle.
