Pearly King and Queen

I recently learned that Paul and Jane went to this party dressed as the Pearly King and Queen, which is a Cockney British tradition.    The name came from the fact that pearls were sewn on their clothing.   

Here is an early version of the Pearly King and Queen.  You can see where Paul and Jane got their inspiration for the costumes.

Here is the 1960's version -- much more "hip."   Looks like Paul and Jane with with the traditional version.
