John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, were chased through Selfridge, London's largest department store, by a gang of screaming fans on Thursday. The couple had come to the store for Yoko to autograph copies of the paperback edition of her book Grapefruit.

One thousand fans, most of whom seemed to be holding copies of the book, Beatles records, and photographs, set upon them as they sat in the book department. Fans followed them, screaming when they walked to the elevators for a luncheon party in the store.

At lunch, Mrs. Lennon said, "This is the first time I have been mobbed in Britain. Now I know what Beatlemania was like."

The couple has a new record released this week, "God Save Us", and are working on a joint book.

Lennon said, "I'm not at all personally sad that the Beatles broke up. I precipitated it before the public got tired of us. As individuals, we are now earning more than we did as Beatles. I have $24,000.00 in the bank. So has Paul McCartney. I hope Paul and I make friends again. It could happen when we are about 50, like Gilbert and Sullivan."

A 15-year-old Mexborourgh girl's dream was realized on Sunday when she met Britain's top pop group, The Beatles, and had her photograph taken with drummer Ringo Starr, whom she voted Beatle Number One.

Kay Corey of 83 Hirstgate Mexborough entered an essay competition sponsored by a local evening paper and wrote 300 words on "If I were an MP." She was one of six winners chosen out of hundreds of entrants. Her prize was a visit to the Thank Your Lucky Stars program, and her parents, Mr. And Mrs. R Corey, saw her on their television set.

After the program, she and the other five girls went to meet the Beatles behind the scenes and were talking to them. Commented Kay," They were all very nice, but I thought Ringo was the nicest to talk to."

The group; George Harrison, John Jennon [sic], Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr signed autographs and had photographs taken with their guests. Kay told a South Yorkshire Times reporter, "I think they are great. It was the first time I had seen them live, and I would like to see them again."

Kay a fifth-form student at Mexborough Grammar School, said she will try to get the photographs as soon as she can.
