George and Bob

July 13, 1975 -- George and Oliva attend a Bob Marley concert and meet the man himself backstage.  Bob Marley is one of my favorites.  These have always been favorite photos.  

Here is what the photographer  had to say about Bob  meeting George:

“When Bob heard that George was coming, he got really excited. He said, ‘Ras Beatle!’ I had a flash on my camera, and the batteries were dying — they were only together for two minutes, and you had to wait 30 seconds to get a charge. It was agonizing. I've read way too many comments on Facebook that state that George never met Bob Marley and that the photo of them shaking hands is photoshopped.   Here is a set of photos showing George and his then girlfriend, Olivia backstage with Bob Marley.    It is real.  Please stop staying it isn't.

I have always liked Bob Marley's music. I have read somewhere that his Greatest Hits album, Legend, would be in the top 10 albums every week on the charts if they hadn't pulled it from hitting after so many years. I don't know how true that it, but I do know that it is one of my favorite albums to listen to in the car as I drive around. It seems like Bob was a Beatles fan and on July 13, 1975 at the Roxy Theatre in L.A. Bob Marley met George Harrison. According to the photographer that was there, Kim Gottlieb-Walker, this is what happened.

Bob and George were both thrilled to be meeting each other. Jeff Walker had heard that Goerge loved Marley's music and because the president of Island Records, Charley Nuccio, was instrumental in bringing The Beatles t America in the '60's, he gave George a call and invited him to the Roxy. Needless to say, as Bob's publicist, Jeff wanted that shot of them meeting because he knew it would get world-wide coverage. When told that George was coming backstage, Bob visibly lit up and said, "Ras Beatle!!" and thought the conversation was short, it was a mutual admiration moment between two of the greatest musical talents of the time I was struggling with a dying flash battery so only got a few shots out of the five-minute meeting
