Jaggers Sail Into the Sunrise (1971)

All I ever read was that Paul and Ringo attended Mick Jagger's wedding in 1971, but not much more, so I decided to dig a little deeper. First off, I discovered that Paul and Ringo did not attend Mick Jagger and Bianca Perez-Mora Macias's actual wedding. But it sounds like it was pretty crazy -- the mayor allowed 100 pressmen into the courthouse because it was a public place, and Mick Jagger refused to go inside because he didn't want to get married in a "fishbowl." The mayor got fed up and said if Mick and Bianca didn't appear in 10 minutes "to hell with the wedding." Right after they were pronounced married, Keith Richards came barging in, cursing up a storm, saying that a fight had broken out outside! Talk about wedding drama! Newspapers claim that George Harrison was also at the wedding reception, but I do not see any other proof of that -- just one reporter stating it and others copying what the first person said. I don't think George was there and after reading this report, I am even more certain.

Mrs. Mick Jagger stood sipping champagne at the private reception in St Tropez early today and told me, "Our wedding has been perfect, despite all the fuss."

Before she and her new Rolling Stone husband sailed into the sunrise aboard their 120 ton honeymoon yacht, she said, "I'm sure we will be happy."

Who will be accompanying them on their honeymoon cruise to Croatia and Sardinia? "You must be joking, mate," laughed Jagger. "We're going alone." He added, "I'll be back here in a couple of weeks for the Monaco Grand Prix."

I danced alongside Mick and his beautiful wife, Bianca at their exclusive reception. Girls kissed each other passionately as men in hot pants withered and cavorted to the thumping, ear-splitting music under grotesque papier mache puppets swinging precariously from the ceiling.

The jet set reception held in a two-floor music hall next to the Café des Arts in the resort's main square failed to heal the feud between Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the other Beatles.

Paul, who left the party early with his wife Linda, sat upstairs. Ringo and his wife, Maureen, remained on the ground floor.

The only exceptions to the way out guests were the bride's groom's parents, Joe and Eva Jagger from Dartford. Mr. Jagger wore a sober suit, and his petite wife was in a print dress; both looked a little overpowered by the occasion.

Ringo Starr yesterday celebrated his marriage to actress Barbara Bach with a little help from his friends Paul McCartney and George Harrison.

The three surviving ex-Beatles appeared together publicly for the first time since John Lennon's death for the ceremony at London's Marylebone registered office. Fans gathered for up to five hours, and there were screams when McCartney arrived with his wife, Linda. A mustached Harrison and his wife slipped into the building almost unnoticed.

Ringo, 40, and Miss Bach, 34, had arrived in a maroon taxi. Ringo was dressed all in black with dark glasses, and Miss Bach was wearing a full-length cream dress decorated with roses. The wedding party included best man, Roger Shine, a friend of Ringo's, who was inside for about an hour.

As they left, scuffling broke out among fans being held back by a police cordon. A man was knocked unconscious when he hit the pavement and was taken to hospital.

Ringo said the honeymoon would be "somewhere in England." He said he felt "fabulous". McCartney said it "was great to be back" with his former colleagues.

Ringo and his new bride left again in a taxi for a reception at the Mayfair club, Rags. The wedding party had included only relatives and close friends.

Ringo and Miss Bach, a former Playboy magazine pinup who starred in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, have lived together for more than a year. They met on the set of the film Caveman, which is set to be released later this year.

Miss Bach has two children by her marriage to an Italian businessman, and Ringo has three: Zak, 15, Jason, 13, and Lee, 10, by his marriage to childhood sweetheart, Maureen Cox.

Ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, wed 007 girl, Barbara Bach, yesterday, with a little help from his friends. Fans young and old, lined the pavement for the 10 Minute ceremony at St. Marylebone register office in London. They were joined by George Harrison and Paul McCartney, his wife Linda, and their children. And shortly afterward, Ringo's mother, Elsie, and stepfather, Harry Graves, rolled up to be followed by Ringo's and Barbara's five children from their first marriages.

As Ringo made his way through the crowd with his new bride, he beamed and said, "I feel fabulous. How would you feel?" One of the witnesses, Roger Shine, said, "It was a lovely occasion, with Ringo and Barbara surrounded by family and friends."

The only sadness was the absence of the fourth Beatle, John Lennon, who was murdered in New York. Barbara, a former Playboy pinup and the James Bond girl in the film The Spy Who Loved Me, met Ringo on the set of another movie.

For two years, they have shared a 12-room house in Hollywood. The couple was involved in a bad car crash in South London last year, and Ringo said later that this had persuaded them that they should marry.

Barbara applied for the marriage certificate last Friday and gave her real name as Goldback. Ringo's real name is Richard Starkey, and he gave his occupation as "musician".

The brief ceremony was delayed half an hour as Linda McCartney and showbiz photographer Terry O'Neil took snaps.

Afterward, the couple jumped into a cab to head for a private reception at a London nightclub.

They have two more days in London before jetting back to Los Angeles, where Ringo faces a lawsuit. His former girlfriend, model Nancy Andrews, who lived with him for five years, is suing him for two and a half million pounds.

Beatle George Harrison married 21-year-old blonde model Pattie Boyd yesterday morning, and sprang his surprise on his legions of fans. He becomes the third married Beatle.

The wedding, which took place at the register office in Epsom, Surrey, was a well-kept secret, and there were none of the screaming, surging crowds which usually mark a Beatle occasion.

The wedding, which was the only one of the morning at the register office, was timed for 11 o'clock, but George arrived 20 minutes early. A little later, the best man, Beatle manager Brian Epstein, arrived in his red Rolls-Royce with Paul McCartney.

Then an undecorated saloon car with obscured windows swept into the forecourt of the register's office, and out stepped the bride. Miss Boyd. She wore a three-quarter-length red fox fur coat over a dark red shot [sic] silk outfit with white lace stockings and mod shoes. She carried a spray of spring flowers.

George, who was 23 in February, wore a black Victorian-style suit with black suede Chelsea boots. The ceremony was both light-hearted and short. It took only seven minutes for the black suited registrar, Mr. Leonard Clarke, to say a few words and slip the white and pink gold wedding ring on the bride's finger.

` The marriage certificate was made out in the names of Miss Patricia Boyd of 22 Strathmore Road, Wimbledon, and George Harrison of King Fauns [sic] Claremont Drive, Esher. The bridegroom signed his occupation simply as a musician and the bride as a model.

Only 13 guests were present at the ceremony, which was held in a small, blue and white-walled room. They crowded round the polished mahogany table, on the center of which stood a vase of daffodils and tulips.

The only members of George's family present were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Harrison [sic] of Warrington, and a friend, Terry Doran, who owns a Liverpool garage. John Lennon and Ringo Starr are still holidaying in the Caribbean with their wives, but before they left England, Pattie and George told them of their plans, and so they were able to send congratulations to the newlyweds.

Wedding presents from the other Beatles are a secret as yet, but impresario Brian Epstein has said that he intends to give them an antique dining table.

As the news of the wedding spread locally, housewives gathered in the forecourt of the register's office, but George and his wife went out to a waiting car through a rear corridor, which was lined with office workers.

As they left, a radiant Pattie smiled. "This is the happiest day of my life. George is wonderful." Grinned George, "We won't be taking a honeymoon, as we would be hounded all the time."

Then the couple who met in March 1964 on the set of the first Beatles film, A Hard Day's Night, drove off, and Paul McCartney, who as a bachelor is the odd man out in the group, was left in something of a predicament. "Now the rumors start about me, I suppose," he said.
