Ringo Starr and John Lennon, accompanied by their wives, had Prime Minister Dr. Eric Williams as a guide when they made a holiday tour of Tobago yesterday. The Premier and his teenage daughter Erica entertained them to lunch, then personally conducted them round the island. The eight-mile journey by jeep and on foot included Bloody Bay on the north coast, famous for its fishing.

Fun in the Sun

Photos from Ringo Starr

When I look at these great photos from this holiday trip Ringo and John took with their wives 60 years ago, I just see two friends having a load of fun.  I would guess that Ringo looks back at this trip with a lot of happy memories -- he must because he shares photographs from his personal album of the trip often.  The last photo of the two of them smiling with the Monopoly money is one of my favorites.  The both are really smiling there -- not just flashing a grin for the camera.  They look so happy.   Ringo and John's friendship is one that was close and I don't think it gets talked about enough.

John Lennon's most hated photographs

John hated these photos of him on the beach from January 1966.  After seeing them in Datebook magazine, he told editor Art Unger during the N. American tour that summer:

"I think I'll get one -- a big, colored, fat one to remind me how horrible it is when I'm fat.  So I'll never get fat again.  I still eat chocolates.  I just think before I eat.  I eat more when I've got nothing to do.  That's the trouble. When I'm just sitting around in hotel rooms and sit for four hours, you're drinking Cokes all the time and stuffing little bits."
