Dreams can come true

 

There is a Paul fan in the UK named Dominic (Instagram: HofnerGuitar) who purchased a 10-foot-tall Hofner bass that is a replica of the bass Paul McCartney plays.   He has displayed this bass at various places around England:  The Beatles statues in Liverpool and the Cavern Club being two big places.  His bass was featured on the UK Antique Roadshow.  

But Dominic had a dream for his giant bass: to have Paul McCartney sign it. Paul has announced that he no longer signs things for fans.  Many people thought it was crazy for Dominic to think that Paul would sign a gigantic replica of his instrument.  But he would not give up and was determined to get that signature. 

He took the bass to the limo-watch in Manchester, which got Paul's attention!  He motioned for him to bring the bass inside!  But he couldn't get past the security because it didn't happen in Manchester.  But he did not give up -- on the Paul concerts in London, and guess what?   Paul signed it before the last concert.  Success!!!

This was a really great moment -- Paul McCartney and his band played on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City for a David Letterman Show.   It was not announced ahead of time and word spread quickly (as I am sure you can imagine) throughout New York.   Did any of you see this live?

There are a lot of great photos from January 7, 1969, but I decided to focus on photos that show Paul in this particular yellow jumper (sweater -- whatever you wish to call it).   Why?  First of all I wonder if he is wearing those awesome yellow socks on this day.  But mostly because this item of clothing was a Christmas gift to Paul from the girls that would later in 1969 be known as The Apple Scruffs (namely Carole).  Just think how amazing it would be to give Paul McCartney a gift and to see him wearing it.  Now think about seeing him wearing in film footage from 55 years ago!  Therefore, I think this yellow jumper is one of my favorite Paul clothing items.

 July 18, 2008 -  I remember this being a huge news story 15 years ago.   At the time, I was on vacation to (where else) Disney World in Orlando, Florida and I saw clips of the concert in the hotel room before I left for the parks.   It must have been an amazing night!
