The former Beatle, Ringo Starr, says he was skeptical about riding an elephant for a polo match, but ended up having a ball. Starr was on a celebrity-laden team from Cartier, the Paris jewelers, in the 10-team bout of this year's World Elephant Polo Championship on Sunday.

"I think I've done excellently," Starr said, although his team didn't win. "I was pretty skeptical when it all began, but it's fun when you come down to it."

Others on the Cartier team were Starr's wife, actress Barbara Bach, Scottish comedian Billy Connolly, actor Max Boyce, and Cartier President Alani Perrin. The tournament was won by a team called Tiger Top Tuskers who smashed in a goal during overtime to trounce the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation one to zero.
