Paul Upset Over Jap Ban
Aberdeen Evening Express
November 12, 1975
A ban by the Japanese government on former Beatle Paul McCartney and his pop group Wings has thrown the group's plans into disarray. A Wings spokesman said in Brisbane today, "The whole thing is disappointing, not only from a performance point of view, but also from a personal one. Paul and his family wanted to see the country," The spokesman told newsmen, McCartney and Wings are currently on a tour of Australia, and we're due to travel to Japan next Sunday.
The spokesman said no appeal would be made to Japanese authorities over the ban, and that another attempt to get the group to Japan would be made in the future. The ban on McCartney entering Japan arises from a conviction in Britain in 1973 over a charge of possession of cannabis. Japan's immigration control law prohibits entry to anyone who has been convicted of a drug charge.
