Beatles fan club members wanted

Hello Beatle friends!

As you know, I wrote my first book, Happiness is Seeing the Beatles:  Beatlemania in St. Louis  last year and it was an amazing experience.    I had so much fun writing the book.

I decided to start in on a new book project that will take many years to complete.   It is a subject that is near and dear to my heart for obvious reasons--the Beatles fan clubs.

My goal is to publish a two volume set of books covering the Beatles fan clubs in the UK and US.   It will be full color with beautiful photographs and stories while telling the story of the Beatles fan clubs.

No one has ever really dug into the history of the Beatles fan clubs, and while I am sure it isn't a topic that is of interest to every fan, I think there is enough interest out there to warrant at least a limited edition book.

For this book to actually happen, I need help!    I am looking to talk to anyone that was involved in the Beatles fan club and has stories that he/she would like to share.    That would include:

  • Fan club chapter presidents/presidents in the U.S.
  • Fan club area secretaries for a state in the U.S.
  • Fan club area secretaries in the U.K.
  • Those that worked for the fan club as a job between 1962-1972
  • Independent fan club presidents
  • Anyone that met the Beatles due to involvement in the fan club.
  • Anyone that went to one of the Beatles fan club conventions in 1963 in England
  • Anyone that attended the Magical Mystery Screening party in December 1967
  • ????????

I also will need lots and lots of photographs of memorabilia.     Fan club membership cards, posters, newsletters, you name it!

Won't you please please help me??   If you weren't involved in the original  fan club---please try to think if you know of someone that was and ask them for me.

And before you ask---no I have not gotten in contact with Freda Kelly, but I am trying to.   If you know how I can best get in contact with her, please let me know.

Send those emails to beatlesbusch66@gmail.com    I have a list of questions for fans to fill out if they are interested, or they can just share their story on the phone or whatever is best of them.

Happy Birthday Ringo!

Today fans joined Ringo at noon where ever they were in the world to stop and say "peace and love" in honor of Ringo's 75th birthday.    I know people keep say how they are sick and tired of hearing Ringo say "peace and love" and making peace signs in every photograph.   However----there are a whole lot worse things the man could be saying.    Personally I am proud that I am in a fandom that promotes peace and love and not hate.   Happy Birthday Ringo from Meet the Beatles...For Real!!!

And of course, I joined in as well!

Am I looking for you??

I am still hard at work gathering all sorts of things for the upcoming celebrating of the Beatles 50th anniversary in America.

I REALLY would love to ask some people who were there in person in New York, D.C. or Miami a few questions.   I know that those who were there get bombarded with questions ever time there is an anniversary, but this is the 50th and I promise that since I am not a professional, my questions will be very simple and there won't be a whole lot of them.

Here is who I am especially looking for, but really anyone who was there in person.   If you know any of these people or if you are one of these people, please email me at Starshyne9@yahoo.com

Beverly Rubin (nee Markowitz) --girl who snipped Ringo's hair in D.C. at the embassy party
Debbie Waugh (nee Fyall) - the girl who poses for photos with 3 of  the Beatles in NYC
Kathy Fay -- at the Washington D.C. concert
Debbie Levitt -- was waiting for the Beatles at JFK
Annette Joseph Walker -- was at JFK and at the Plaza when the Beatles wer there
June Harvey -- was in the audience of the Ed Sullivan show
Linda Binns Liles -- girl who was talking to Ringo on the train to D.C.
Eileen Harntett --- girl who was photographed injured outside of the Plaza hotel
Barbara Turchin (married name might be Grossman) -- one of the girls photographed with Ringo on the beach in Miami
Carol Olesky (married name might be Marks) -- the other girl photographed with Ringo on the beach in Miami

I have gotten some great responses from many 1st generation fans who answered my questionnaire.   If you haven't answered the questions yet, please do so.    So far I have heard mostly from guys.  I know girls were watching the Ed Sullivan show in 1964 too!

O-U-T spells out -- help me win!!!

As you know....I have never really met one of the Beatles in person.   It is one of the biggest irony's in my life.   I run a blog called "Meet the Beatles ... for real!"  and I haven't even ever met one of the Beatles.

Paul is running a contest for an autograph of his new album.   It would mean everything in the world to me to win Paul's autograph.   I have Ringo's autograph and that is all.   I know so many people who have Paul's autograph from meeting him or buying it, but I have never had that opportunity.  I really want to win.

Please fellow fans....help me out!  All you have to do is click on this link.

Hi Hi Hi Paul!

Hi Paul!   Well friends, I have big big big news to share.   If you are friends with me (Sara not Meet the Beatles for Real) on facebook, I have already shared this, but I have kept it to myself long enough.

I am going to the Paul McCartney concert in Memphis, Tennessee on May 26th.   Okay that in and of itself isn't big news, although it is exciting.    But I did something that many people only dream of doing, I went ahead and ordered the VIP tickets.   That means that I going to go to the soundcheck and I have third row, center seats.

As you all know, I have never met Paul or Ringo "for real" which is the irony of this blog.   It is my lifelong dream to be able to write my own story for this blog about how I met one of the Beatles and have a photo to prove it.    I know that I most likely never will meet Paul McCartney; however I also know that if it was going to happen this could be my one and only chance in life.    I am totally at a blank as to what I could put on a sign that might get his attention.   Even if I don't "meet" him, if he read my sign or even acknowledged my existence, I would be happy.

If anyone has any ideas of how I could get Paul's attention please contact me.   I do not want a tattoo (not even if it is Paul's signature) so that idea is out (besides it has been done).   Just really I need is something short and clever to put on a sign.

The best idea will be getting a Paul McCartney package of Beatles fanzines that focus on Paul.   I am not sure exactly what all will be in it at this point, but I am working on it.

Everybody pulled their socks up (an tribute to Paul's socks)

The photo that started it all:   Paul's yellow socks.
This blog post tonight in in honor of the friends I made at the Bootlegzone forum many years ago.  Thanks for mentioning my this blog recently.

When I started this blog, I had no idea that the Beatles clothing would be such a big topic.   But us fans pay attention to what the Beatles wore and when they wore it.   Besides the Beatles wore some pretty amazing clothes.   In the upcoming months I am going to try my hand at making some "pages" on the blog about some of our favorite articles of clothing.   Just basically put all of the photos in one spot and get the information we have gathered together for future reference.   To get us started, I thought I would post photos of one of my favorite topics, Paul McCartney's socks!   Yes....you read correctly.  The man who made a song called "Lunch box/Odd socks" really liked to show off his socks.   He may be well-known for being the barefoot one that crossed Abbey Road, but the man really enjoys wearing coloring socks.

This might not be the last post on this topic.   Just a warning.

Sadly this photo from a Sgt. Pepper session in 1967 is in black and white. Nice socks, but what color?

For sitting at the feet of the Maharishi in 1967, Paul choose the red pair.
Paul wore his pink suit in during the Cavendish dome part of the Mad Day out photo shoot in 1968, better wear those pink socks!
Blue for the rooftop!

By the time he was in Wings, he got his wife in on the sock craziness.
