Fans didn't get to see them!

When the Beatles landed at Geneal Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at 4:20pm, around 700 Beatle fans were waiting to greet them.   They were holding their signs and waving their banners, ready to see the Beatles come down off the plane and wave to them before being taken off by a police officer to a car

However, fans were disappointed, because for the first time in the U.S. tour history, the Beatles did not get to wave to any of the waiting fans.  The Beatles' plane was taken to the far side of the field and out of the eyesight of the fans.

Paul  was sure to tell that it was not the Beatles' idea to snub the fans and it was the police who said they could not wave to the fans.   The media tried to lay the blame on Brian, which Paul was quick to say was a lie.   Sorry Milwaukee Beatle fans!

Please Mister policeman sir....

Oops!  I left this one out of Atlantic City and it is just too great not to post.   I love the little girl asked the policeman if she could meet the Beatles and I love the big sign.   Plus this is a great photo of what the Lafayette Hotel looked like.

Happy Birthday Paul

I know, I know....I should have posted this sooner.     But I am still wishing Paul a very happy 72nd birthday.    Seeing photos of him today celebrating with family and friends made me happy.   I am glad that he was able to enjoy his birthday with the people he enjoys spending time with.   He is looking good and I am very excited about seeing him in Kansas City on July 16.    Here is to many more happy birthday's for Paul!!!

We love you Beatles

The Beatles' Carnegie Hall concert was a strange one. Not the actual concert, mind you, but the set up of the two shows.   First of all there were fans sitting on the stage with the Beatles (some of them recording the show with their home movie camera), and then there were all of these fans sitting way up in a tiered balcony.   I know this is fine for theater, but for a Beatles concert it always looked to be a little dangerous.

Fans took advantage of the balcony and made large signs and banner to hang from them to get the boys' attention.   One of those signs has been saved all of these years and is currently available on ebay.  As we always see these photographs in black and white, the pure brightness of the colors somewhat surprised me.   There is no way the Beatles could not have seen this "We love you" sign while they were giving the concert.  The sign, at 6 feet tall, is bigger than any of the members of the band!

Here is what the seller says about the sign:
As a 15 year old Beatlemaniac, I'd prepared for the event by making a huge sign which I hung over the balcony of my second-tier box. In neon spray paint were the carefully blocked out words "We Love You". The six foot tall, heart shaped sign attracted a lot of attention. I subsequently found pictures of it in three fan magazines, and I am sure there were more.

I am offering for sale the very sign. It has spent the majority of the last 50 years stored in my father's studio in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Maybe the most amazing thing about the sign is that it has lasted for the past 50 years and is a piece of Beatle fan history that really should be in a museum.

What if it rains? We didn't care!

These fans got pretty wet waiting to see the Beatles at the airport.   Yet they seem to be fairly pleased.  One fan is even still hanging onto her soggy "I love George" sign.   I wonder if this was from Australia (where the Beatles also got soaking wet).   I know there have been many instances where Beatle fans got sopping wet and it didn't matter one bit.   I was soaked through the skin at the Paul McCartney concert in St. Louis in 2012, but it didn't matter one bit.   I think these fans were feeling the same way.

Ringo signage

You know, I was all excited last year when Paul read my sign during a concert.  I can't even begin to imagine how excited this fan must have been when Ringo took the sign she had from her and held it up for everyone to see!   Wow!

Some fan worked really hard on this "We love you Beatles" sign!   I bet it got their attention.

Quick Recover

Do you think these fans who made this sign ran out of room to make the "y" to make it say "Ringo quick recovery"?   And they figured, oh....they know what we mean!   I think seeing the Beatles on a boat like that would have been awesome!   What a neat way to wave at the fans.   Better than the cars in Japan.  (remember Paul's story about the girls on the corners in Japan screaming?)

My big news!

Just a quick note to announce that Paul read my sign aloud at the concert in Memphis last night!!  This is the closest I will get to my own "Meet the Beatles for real" story and I am very happy about it.  Paul looked right at me and spoke to me for a brief second.

I am working on a full report about the soundcheck and concert.   But I wanted to let all of the readers of "Meet the Beatles for Real" know about my good fortune.

Not everyone was a fan

Some protesters when the Beatles were making the movie, Help!    Luckily their sign didn't make the Beatles head back home.

I love being a Beatles fan

I love being a Beatles fan because when I see an image like this one, the only thing in the photograph that seems outdated is the car.
