Still Talking about Freedom

As I do every year on September 11th on this blog,  I would like to take a moment to remember all of those that lost their lives on this day 17 years ago.      As the banner Paul is in these photos displaying,  we will never forget.    We will never forget where we were that day, how we felt or what we did afterward to ban together.

I am thankful that Paul came back and did the Concert for NYC and recorded the song "Freedom."  It helped in a very small way.

Thank you to all the firefighters and police officers and kind citizens that helped save lives that day.  And may the memories of those we lost never be forgotten.

Happy Independence Day!

It is the 4th of July, which here in the United States is Independence Day.     In celebration, I thought I would post this mini poster from my collection.

The girls with the flag

I wonder how these two girls in red got the job of holding the poles of the British flag for the Beatles for this photo session?   Wouldn't that have been a great job!

Four Brits and a flag

photos by Nicholas DeScoise

These iconic photos of the Beatles standing with a large American flag as a backdrop appeared on the cover of 16 magazine's Beatles special and is featured in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.   These photos are similar to the photographs Dezo Hoffman took in January 1964 of the Beatles in Paris, yet they have a less serious look about them.

They were taken in Denver  by a then 19 year old fan named Nick DeScoise.   Nick had been photographing the Beatles in Denver for the high school where he had recently graduated.   He had taken photographs of them during the press conference and was walking with them down a hall where they saw a very large American flag on display.    Nick said in a 1995 new story about the Beatles at Red Rocks, "The idea just hit us. This wold be the funniest picture -- in front of the American flag.  They gave me five shots and then they went out and did their songs."

An impromptu photo shoot with a teenage photographer ended up being a famous photo.   Great stuff!

Apple in 1970

Posting about my trip to London reminded me of some photos I had gotten permission to share before I left on my trip from someone else who also went on a trip to London.   Only this person's trip was in August 1970 and he was able to photograph 3 Savile Row during the time when the Beatles were still in the building and Apple company that worked out of that location.   I think the Apple flag is just awesome.   I bet it would go for a lot of money at an auction these days.

All of these photos from from "twanger13" and are posted with permission.

John Rolls!  Was John around there somewhere?
