The reception

Apri 27, 1981 - - After Ringo and Barbara exchanged vows, they went to a nightclub in the Mayfair part of London called "Rags" for a reception.   Between 50-70 people were invited.   Besides George, Paul and their wives (and in Paul's case children - I guess the Harrison got a babysitter for Dhani), also at the wedding were Ringo's parents, Barb's parents, Barb'd children from her first husband,  Derek Taylor (and wife, Joan), Neil Aspinall (and his wife, Joan), Harry and Oona Nilsson, Hillary Gerrard, and makeup lady named Barbara Daley and a hair guy named Leonard.  Terry O'Neil took photographs.

Everyone left with a large solid star and of course, the wedding cake was also shaped like a star.

The biggest and most exciting news from the reception was that the "Threetles" (which they wouldn't be known as until the mid-1990s) were heard making music and some people even say that they heard "Beatles songs" (although which ones is unknown to me).   But from the photographs, we see that Paul played piano and George was on the guitar and Ringo seems to be playing some sort of make-shift drum and also a guitar.   Oh to have been a fly on the wall of the Rag nightclub on April 27, 1981!

Wishing John a happy birthday!

October 9, 1980

Celebrating John's 40th birthday and Sean Lennon's 5th birthday.   I am sure I share these photos almost every year on John's birthday.   I just love them so much that they are always worth sharing again.  I love the fact that John is wearing a silly paper hat with the number 40 on it.   I bet Sean made that for him.    The photo of John and Sean blowing out the candles is so special.    I hope you enjoy these photos yet again and they help you celebrate today -- John's 80th birthday!

It was Jane Asher's birthday

Photo by Judy Jarvis.  Shared here with permission.

On April 5, 1967, Paul took a break from all the work he was doing on the Sgt. Pepper album and traveled to the United States with Mal Evans to see his girlfriend, Jane who was traveling with  The Old Vic and performing Romeo and Juliet.

Paul met up with Jane in Denver, Colorado and the couple was allowed to stay at the home of Bert Rosenthal while Mal had to go to the Driftwood Motel.

That evening the Old Vic had a party in a hotel to celebrate Jane's special birthday.    Jane's mother was there.     One of the actresses in the play was a girl that went by  Judy Matheson.   Judy took this amazing color photograph of Jane, Paul and Mrs. Asher at the party.

A big thanks to Judy for allowing MTBFR to share the only known color photograph from this event!

Pattie's birthday in India

On March 17, 1968,  Pattie Boyd (Harrison) celebrated her 24th birthday while in India.   Much like George's birthday, she celebrated with cake and music and everyone piled their flowers around her neck.

Cake Break

I love this photograph taken on John's 40th birthday.   Notice the photograph of Sean in the background?     I think it is a photo of Sean with a red rubber pool raft around him.    That cake looks good.    Happy birthday John!   We all love you and are thankful that you were born.

One on One with Paul

I love this photo from backstage in Georgia.   Paul looks good with the grey showing again (at least to me).    I love the Hofner cake and the custom One on One guitar.    What I don't get is why Paul always has those curtain/backdrops backstage.  They look gaudy (again at least to me).

Remember when it really was 20 years ago today....

Remember when George said to "take a piece but not too much?"  Linda--I think he was talking to you.  Look at that slice of cake!

It is John's birthday

76 years ago in Liverpool, England John Lennon was born and the world has been a better place because of his music, message and humor.     John was far from perfect, but even his imperfection, he was a pretty great guy.

In 1971 John and Yoko and some friends had a birthday party in New York during Yoko's "This is not here" show.    These photos are from that time.
