Bob apologizes for the blurry photo of Ringo but says he was nervous when he took it.   It is totally understandable, Bob.   He took this inside of Apple in 1971.  I love the Beatles / McCartney albums on the wall in the background.

Sure I could have shared this privately -- but this way the rest of the Beatles fans can see it too.

Happy Anniversary to the Apple Scruffs!!!!

A lot of 50th Anniversaries have come and gone over the past month but here is one that I just knew would be forgotten.  (But not by me!)    It was around this time of year (Late October-Early November) in 1969 that the Apple Scruffs were named. 

Sure the "regulars" and the "goodies" and the "baddies" had been hanging around since 1966 and were there all through the trials and tribulations of the White Album and Abbey Road.   But they did not have an official name until the autumn of 1969 and that is when one of them (some say it was Margo, but does it really matter anymore?)  dubbed them "The Apple Scruffs."    And from there Apple Scruff badges and membership cards were made.   Once the Beatle Book Monthly ended in December 1969, the Apple Scruff Monthly started to appear.   

We all know George wrote that great song about them where he claims "there's so much you don't know about Apple Scruffs."    That is still true today.   I have tried to research all I could about them.  I have tried to ask questions.   I have found that they are extremely sweet, lovely ladies that are still gaga over John, Paul, George and Ringo.  However, they have chosen to remain silent in concern to many of their memories of waiting to see the Beatles.   While I don't like it, I understand it.   These are their personal memories that they want to keep between those that were there. 

I hope history understands that none of them were groupies.   None of them were stalkers.   They were a group of friends that passed the time waiting for the Beatles on the steps of 3 Savile Row.  Their story is one that is more about friendship because of The Beatles than about The Beatles themselves, and that is something that we all can relate to.

So tonight I raise a toast to The Apple Scruffs and wish them a happy 50th anniversary! 

Newly Shaven

According to that has been posted over the weekend, the bottom photo was taken on October 31, 1969.  These would be the first photos of John clean shaved.   It has been said that Yoko asked John to shave and so he did.  Thank you Yoko!  I am not too crazy about the big bushy beard look.   I like seeing his handsome face better.

Some time in 1968  (My guess that it was taken in February), Paul McCartney and John Lennon posed for this lovely photo inside of Paul's home on Cavendish Avenue.    If you look, you can see some of Martha's fur at the bottom.    It really is a great Lennon-McCartney photograph.    Somewhere along the line,  the photo was blown up to  42 by 48 inches and put on a board.   Then it was framed up and do you know where it ended up?

It was in the Apple offices, hanging over the white fireplace.     I am not sure how long it stayed there, but it wasn't there when I was there in 2017.

Alright, I am just joking about that one -- of course, I didn't think there would be any Beatles stuff left inside of the Abercrombie & Finch children's clothing store that now occupies 3 Savile Row.  Honestly, I am not even sure if that is the same white fireplace. 

So where did the John and Paul portrait end up?   In Ringo's possession -- where else?    I am not sure where Ringo had this hanging in his home, or even why he wanted it -- except that it is a really nice photo of his two friends.    But it was sold in 2015 as part of Ringo's auction with Juliens.   Whoever owns it now paid $6,400 for it.    I wonder if they know that it originally hung inside of Apple Offices?
