Through Ringo's blue eyes

What did landing in New York look like to Ringo?   Well here is a photo he snapped with his camera through the window of the airplane.   This might be Miami--it is hard to tell.   But still this is what he saw as the plane taxied to a stop.   This photo came from the Teen magazine that published a bunch of Ringo's photos in 1964 and strangely it isn't in his new book.

Is Ringo Starr looking for you?

Well friends, this is a first to report.   Normally I talk about fans who have met one of the Beatles.   Today I am going to talk about one of the Beatles who wants to meet some fans.

Ringo Starr took this photo in 1964 and he is now looking to track down the people in the photograph he took.    Ringo isn't sure, but he thinks this photo was taken in Miami.    I hate to disagree with Richard Starkey M.B.E., but why would kids in warm Miami be wearing such heavy coats?   I think this photo was most likely taken in New York City, although it could possibly been in Washington D.C. (although I do not spot any snow in the photo, so that is less likely than New York).

This blog has had very good luck tracking down Beatles fans from around the world.   It would be amazing to me if I could help one of the Beatles locate the fans in the photo he snapped.   Can't you just hear Ringo saying, "And I would like to thank Sara from Meet the Beatles for Real for helping me."     Alright...enough of my daydreams and back to business.

Look carefully at this photograph.    See if you recognize someone you might know.   Someone you used to work with, went to school with, was neighbors with, etc.  Especially think if you recall anyone ever talking about seeing the Beatles in a car during their first U.S. visit.  I would imagine if you were looking inside of the car and Ringo Starr was holding a camera, you would tell others about it.      I don't expect to start off by  one of the people in the photo just popping up and saying, "that's me!"   But if someone recognizes the fan in the photo and we can have a name or two, that would be a great start.

Keep passing this photo around and asking others.  Someone knows who these fans are and can help Ringo with this mystery.

Come on Beatle fans....we can do this!

First aid

This is one of the photos from Ringo's book, Photograph.   Ringo says that during the Tabango trip in 1966, John stepped on a sea urchin and this lady had to remove it from his foot.   That is an interesting way to meet one of the Beatles, perform first aid on him.    Think she got an autograph when she was done?

Ringo's photos

I bought the People magazine that is currently on the newstands and scanned (with my brand new scanner) the Ringo photos.   These are so wonderful!  I can't wait to see what else Ringo has in store for us.

Big news from Ringo!

I am sure that by now most of you have heard the exciting news that Ringo is publishing the photographs that he took  during his time with the Beatles.   It is well known that Ringo took a lot of photographs during the Beatles years (actually all of the guys did, but I think Ringo was the one you see the most often with a camera).    As fans we once saw some of Ringo's shots in a teen magazine called "Ringo's photo album."  For many years I have enjoyed the photos of the guys that Ringo took from that 1964 magazine, but I also knew that there were more out there in Ringo's archives.   I can't wait to see these photos.   I sort of lump photos taken by one of the guys in with photos taken by fans because they are snapshots that show a much more intimate picture of the four guys than a professional photo does.   From what I can tell, we will be seeing photos from John and Ringo's holiday in 1966 and many more vacation shots.   Fans of Maureen should be excited because there are sure to be many photos of Ringo's former wife as well.

The catch to all of this is that you cannot just order this book from your local Beatle book retailer.   The only way you can get a hard copy of this book is to buy one from Genesis books.  Those are books are very expensive and are limited in number.  Although I did see on their website that they have a three month payment plan available on their books.   Silly as it sounds to make payments on a book, that is a freezable option.   The book is also available to see if you own an ipad.   My mom has an ipad (I just have a cheap tablet and my expensive touch-screen desktop), so I will be able to at least look at it on her ipad.    But you won't be able to save any of the photos, but I guess we can't be overly picky Beatle freaks now can we.  What concerns me about this is what will happen once the ipad is no longer around or no longer compatible with the program of Ringo's book.  But I know next to nothing about ipads.   A preview of some of the photos will be in the next issue of People magazine.

What photos do you hope are shown?   Do you think the other Beatles (or their estates) will follow suit in the coming years?

If Facebook was around in 1966, this would have been Ringo's profile picture.
