The Hollywood Vampires cira '73

Micky Dolenz shared this slide recently on social media and I realized that it is one that I do not have in the "uh-oh files."   One can only guess what they are talking about.

Happy Birthday Harry

Today Harry Nilsson would have turned 81 years old.     Thinking of Harry today.

A few of Ringo's friends

Who is the little girl?   At first, I thought it must be Lee, but then I thought that Lee would be older than this young girl at the time this photo was taken.   Then I realized she must be Maureen's daughter with her 2nd husband  ( Augusta)

Harry and Maureen -- two people that we lost in the early 1990s -- way too soon.

Without You

Today I was listening to Harry sing "Without Out" and just thinking about what a great voice he had and what a great friendship he and John had.

Rest in peace Zak Nisson

Ringo with Zak and Harry Nilsson in 1993 in L.A.

Zak and his Dad, Harry

I just got word that Zak Nilsson passed away this morning.    Zak was only 50 years old.   His Dad was of course the amazing Harry Nilsson.    Zak was also a musician and he often shared great memories of his Dad.

Zak very bravely honestly documented his journey with cancer.   Through Facebook, he was honest and upfront about what he was going through and how he felt about it.   It didn't sugar coat it but wanted to let people know what it was really like to have cancer.  He also had fun with some great karaoke.

I am sure that Zak is now at peace and out of pain.   My love and comfort goes to his wife and family.

Why didn't I ever notice this before?

On October 30, 1974, Ringo & Harry along with their romantic partners at the time attended the premiere of Ringo's film "That'll be the Day."     What I never noticed before was that the jacket Ringo wore to the film's premiere is the same jacket Ringo wore in the movie!

Zapata!

While John and Yoko were busy working on Double Fantasy in New York City,  Harry Nilsson and Ringo Starr were in Chester, Connecticut at the Goodspeed Oprea House.

On September 17, 1980,  the play Zapata! premiered at the famed Goodspeed.   The Goodspeed is known as THE place for American Musicals.   Annie had it's premiere there in 1976 and then on to Broadway and worldwide fame.  Harry had co-written the music for the musical.

The story was based on the life of Emiliano Zappata, who was one of the main guys involved in the Mexican revolution.     Reviews at the time felt like the Mexican characters in the play were stereotypes and very two dimential.    The musical closed under two months of performances.

The night of the opening, Ringo and Harry showed up wearing hats.   Ringo thought it would be a good idea to show up in hats.   Reports claim that the best buddies spent more time at the Gelson House Bar next to the Goodspeed Oprea than inside the theater.
