Father and son get a lucky break

Viewer of this site, Hermilo Borba, sent in these two photos of him and his son on stage with Paul along with this story on how it all happened.     Thank you Hermilo!  Congratulations!

In 2012 Paul Mccartney came to my city, Recife, Brazil. I've been a fan since 1977 and I've been at 26 Paul’s concerts. I went to the concert with my son Rafael (dressed in Sgt Peppers ) and did a baner: “ Paul you only call girls onstage, please, call us, dad and son.”. We were in the first row and it worked, Brian came and called us. I was shaking and crying, Paul asked to read the poster, asked our name and where we were from. After signing photos,he gave me a hug and at that moment I said: thank you for making our world better place to live with your music. I still don't believe it happened. A dream came true. son”.

Happy 16th birthday to B!

B's birthday in 2012

Part of running this blog is to share photographs of not just their individual members of the Beatles, but also their wives and children.     However, with Paul's youngest child being a minor, several places have been told by MPL to remove any current photos of B.     I respect the child's privacy and I rarely post photos, although I do keep up to date on what is going on in the teen's life.    I wanted to wish B a very happy birthday.   I am glad to see that the 16 year old is involved in musical theater and seems to be a happy and healthy teen.    Best wishes for a great year!

Tomorrowland

I am gearing up for a trip to Walt Disney World next month and that got me looking in my files for photos of the Beatles at a Disney Park and I re-found this gem from 2012.   Bea and Paul on the Tomorrowland Speedway  (thank you for the correction)

Meet the Beatles for Real Contest: Win James McCartney's autograph!

James McCartney walking in Liverpool last year

Hello all of you visitors of "Meet the Beatles for Real!"   It is time for another contest!   This one isn't going to be a trivia contest, it is going to be a raffle.    However, unlike a traditional raffle, you do not have to pay money to enter.

There will only be one winner of this raffle (no 2nd or 3rd place winners this time around).  The winning person will get a genuine James McCartney autograph that I obtained in person on June 4, 2013 at the Demo in St. Louis, Missouri.   It is signed on the booklet that came out of my copy of James McCartney's EP.   You won't get the CD however, because I listen to it all the time.

Here is how you enter this amazing contest.

1.  Email a photograph that goes along with the theme of Meet the Beatles for Real.   Hopefully send me something you think I have never seen.   Send me a photo of one of the Beatles or Beatles family member taken by a fan, has a fan in the photo, the Beatles signing an autograph for a fan, etc.   Any photo that deals with the Beatles and fans.     Send your photo to Starshyne9@yahoo.com

2.  I will email you back with your raffle number.   It is your job to keep your number.  I am not going to keep track of raffle numbers and names.

3.  I will announce the winning number on September 1, 2013.  If your number is the winner, then email me and let me know your home address so I can mail out the James McCartney autograph to you.  Pretty easy!

Only one entry per person for this raffle.   The numbers will be chosen at random by a number generator on the internet.   All entries must be in by 5:00p.m. Central Time on September 1, 2013.  Let me know if you have any questions and send in those photos!

I doubt Paul has room to hang all of the awards and recognitions has received over the years.

A Nancy girl

I found this photo on the McCartney photo blog the other day.   And it just made me smile.   I often see photos of fans with Beatles wives or former wives.   I  have met several myself.  But I have never seen a photo of anyone with Paul's current bride, Nancy.    This young girl's smile just made my day.  She is obviously so happy to have met Mrs. McCartney before a Paul concert.  It was nice to Nancy to pose for this photo with the young fan.

Spotting McCartney in the crowd

Remember what I always say:   everywhere you go, be on the look-out for a Beatle!   If you didn't know he was there, would have have spotted Paul in these crowds?  It is funny because you can obviously tell who in the crowds knew who was among them and who did not (kid behind Paul at the basketball game had no clue, did he?)

Little Girl tapes continue

Anyone who follows this blog should know that I tend to obsess over Beatles things.   I get stuck on one particular topic and I have to found out every bit of information there is about it.   A few years ago my topic of obsession was the "Little Girl" tapes.    I have talked about them a million times before on this blog.   These are the tapes that Leslie Samuels and her friend Donna Stark made when they visited the Beatles at their homes in 1967.    The bootleg is of Paul and George.   They are fascinating and I transcribed the entire thing at one point.  I also went into a deep search to find out more about Leslie and Donna and their meeting with the Beatles.   This was all before I had this blog, although it might have began my passion for Beatles and their fans.

So anyhow, over the years I have chatted with Leslie online and shockingly enough I didn't scare her away!   She is going to be featured next week on the PBS show, the Antique Road Show.  She is showing her book of John's writings autographed by John and a photograph of Paul reading the book.    You can see the segment here:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/video/episode-preview-8pm.html

It says you can hear Paul reading the book on the site.,  I didn't see a link for that up yet, but I would check back after it actually airs.

I wonder if Paul remembers this happening.   And what if he just happens to be watching the Antique Road Show and sees it?   Oh the way my mind wanders.

The segment was taped this past summer.  Here is Leslie with her book and photo

Can we all say, busted?   Yeah...obviously from the video clip, Leslie owns the rights to these photos.

Shortie

I know Paul isn't a super-tall man, but wow he sure looks tiny standing next to these Chicago Bulls basketball players.    Supposedly these fellows were really excited to meet Macca.   I know Paul follows American baseball, but does he know much about basketball?

Giving Peace a Chance with Julian Lennon

A new blog reader named Michael was kind enough to send in these photos of him meeting Julian Lennon at Art Basel in Miami on December 8th of this year.   I love the fact that Julian is acknowledging Michael's John Lennon t-shirt!   Very awesome!!!!   I love it when readers send it stuff like this.   Anyone else????

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

I hope that most of you were able to see Paul McCartney on Saturday night Live last night.  I found it to be very enjoyable.  I loved Paul's performance of "Wonderful Christmastime" with the children's choir.   They sounded so good!   And those lucky kids got to sing on national television with Paul McCartney.   They had such beautiful smiles on their faces.   Of course the children's choir earlier had sang a beautiful rendition of "Silent Night" in memory of the children and staff murdered in their elementary school on Friday morning.

I want to send out my deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers out to all of the teachers and students at Sandy Hook elementary school.   Those of you who know me, will know that I am an elementary school teacher.   I do not do "Beatles" things for a living (although it shocks me how many people think that I get paid for this and do it as a full time job!).   From 7:15am - 4:00pm I am working as a reading teacher at the elementary school that is down the street from my house.    I am a Title 1 teacher, which means I teach kids who are having some trouble learning how to read.   I have small group of Kindergarten - 5th grade kids in my room for about an hour a class.   So I teach the same age kids as those who go to Sandy Hook.   If I wasn't in Illinois and lived in Connecticut instead, I very well could teach there.   As one teacher said, this was the 9-11 for teachers.   But yet I still love my job.   I love the kids, even when they are misbehaving and do not listen.   And I would do whatever it takes to keep my students safe.   That is what I do.    I have heard people say that schools should be canceled tomorrow, and honestly that thought never crossed my mind.   I have lessons that need to be done tomorrow.   The kids are having their holiday music concert in the morning.   I am so sad and confused by everything that happened, but it does not scare me away from my job.

I have strong views about guns that I keep to myself all the time.   So  I won't go babbling about guns except to say that things should have changed since December 8, 1980 and December 14, 2012.   And I do not see much change happening.

Remember that War is over (if you want it).   Take the time this week to mend broken relationships with loved ones, rekindle an old friendship, forgive someone who has hurt you and spread love to those in need of love.   Try to end all of the "wars" going on in your personal life because our time here is short.   You never know what might happen to you or to someone you love.

Sending all of my loving to all of the Beatle fans around the world,
Sara S.

Hot off the presses: 12/12/12 concert

I enjoyed "chatting" with some of you while we all watch the Paul McCartney portion of the Hurricane Sandy benefit tonight.   It was fun!   I was watching on Youtube and thanks to a wonderful thing known as the "snipping tool," I was able to make a few captures of tonight excitement.

I thought this was really awesome!

The most expesive way to meet Paul McCartney

I am always trying to think up ways to meet Ringo or Paul.   The single most expensive way that works every time is to pay Paul to come and perform at your own birthday party.   I know that in 2003, someone paid 1 million dollars for Paul to play at a private party.   1 million dollars (or more now) and Paul will sing in your backyard.   I better tell you, for that kind of money, Paul also better pose for photos with me and sign some albums.   Now if you think Paul is out of your price range, a Ringo performance at a party will cost you between $150,000-$250,000.   Now...if I was REALLY REALLY rich, I would just pay Paul AND Ringo and make them both perform.   Even if they did two separate performances one right after another...that would be cool with me.

One billionaire named David Bonderman hired Paul this past weekend to perform at a party for his 70th birthday.   Wouldn't you have liked to have been on THAT guest list?   I am happy when I go to a birthday party and there is cake!   And what of the people that were invited and decided not to go?   Moral of the lesson:   If you know a billionaire and that person invites you to a party, you better go.  you just never know if Paul McCartney might show up.

Read the story :

These are not halcyon days for the private equity industry. Returns are down. Fund-raising is trying. A tax increase looms.

Such challenges, however, did not deter one of the industry’s titans, David Bonderman, from holding a 70th birthday party for himself and about 700 of his closest friends at the Wynn resort in Las Vegas Saturday night.

Paul McCartney was the surprise musical guest, playing for more than two hours. A newly minted septuagenarian himself, Mr. McCartney, the former Beatle, headlined a concert that also featured the comedian Robin Williams and the rocker John Fogerty. Mr. McCartney played several Beatles hits, including “Revolution” and, in a song befitting a 70th birthday, “The Long and Winding Road.”

“We rocked the Wynn,” wrote Charlotte Moss, a New York interior designer who attended the party, on her Twitter feed after the show.

The party for Mr. Bonderman, a founding partner of TPG, is the latest extravagant birthday celebration thrown by a private equity billionaire. During the summer of 2010, Leon D. Black of Apollo Global Management observed his 60th with a show by Elton John at his oceanfront estate in Southampton, on Long Island. Stephen A. Schwarzman’s 60th, thrown at the Park Avenue Armory in 2007, featured a Rod Stewart concert and became a symbol of the new Gilded Age.

It was Mr. Bonderman, known to friends and colleagues as Bondo, who set the standard for these blowouts a decade ago. For his 60th birthday party at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, he hired the Rolling Stones and John Mellencamp to perform.

Mr. McCartney and the other aging rockers who play these affairs are part of a growing cottage industry of stars that play private concerts for hire. Mr. Bonderman was not even the first moneyman to score Mr. McCartney as a headline act. In 2003, the investor Ralph V. Whitworth hired him to play at his wife’s 50th birthday.

It is unclear how much Mr. McCartney earned for his performance, but music industry executives say that his asking price is well north of $1 million.

Even Mr. Fogerty, the former frontman for the rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, reveled in sharing billing with Mr. McCartney. On his Facebook page, Mr. Fogerty, who played hit songs like “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising,” posted a photo of himself and Sir Paul at Mr. Bonderman’s fete.

Whatever Mr. McCartney’s appearance fee, it was a rounding error for Mr. Bonderman, who is worth about $2.6 billion, according to Forbes magazine. A Harvard Law School graduate, he began his career as a lawyer in Washington before moving to Texas to work for the billionaire financier Robert Bass.

Party guests included Hamilton E. James, the president of the private equity firm Blackstone Group; Michael D. Eisner, the former chief executive of Walt Disney, and Marc E. Kasowitz, the New York trial lawyer. Mr. Bonderman donated $1,000 to a charity of each guest’s choice.

Other than Ms. Moss’s Twitter post, guests were unwilling to speak on the record or be quoted about the party. One said that was because he wanted to be invited to Mr. Bonderman’s 80th. “Bruce Springsteen will only be 72 by then,” he said.

LIPA Graduate 2012

Rebecca is a lucky girl because she graduated from LIPA but also because she got to meet Paul McCartney!   How many people go to LIPA just so they can meet Paul when they graduate?

Sara's review of the Paul McCartney concert

Having me review a Paul McCartney concert is a bit pointless, isn't it?   Here I am a person who spent most of her free time documenting what this man and his three friends did every day of their lives by analyzing photos and story of other people from around the world.   I listen to his music constantly and some people say that I am obsessed.    I actually have been know to say that  if Paul McCartney was selling tickets to come up on stage and fart into a microphone, I would pay for the ticket to see it and would most likely think it was awesome.    So yeah....what can someone like me really say about the Paul McCartney concert?

So let me just say what I overheard two guys (who were in their mid 20's) saying after the show last night:

Guy 1:  "Hey!  I didn't know you were going to be at this show.   That was awesome!"
Guy 2:  "Wow...nice to see you.   That was an amazing show!  I had no idea that Paul McCartney was going to do a show like THAT!   That concert just might be the best show I have ever been to!"
Guy 1:  "Hands down.  Best show ever.   No comparison."

I wanted to interrupt these two guys' conversation and say,  "Duh!  This is Paul McCartney.  What else would you expect?  Of course is he awesome.  Of course his concert is beyond amazing!  That is what he does."

So what made the Paul McCartney show so amazing?   Well first of all, it is the mere fact that you are in the in midst of the greatness that is Paul McCartney.    There is the guy who was in the Beatles....and was John Lennon's song writing partner.   Same guy.   That totally blew me away.   It wasn't some Paul look alike singing his songs, but the real deal.   The second amazing this was that he is 70 years old and didn't take a break for 3  straight hours.   He didn't stop to get a drink of water.  He didn't stop to catch his breath or change clothes or use the bathroom.  He just kept going with more energy than anyone (except for maybe Ringo.  He might be tied with Ringo in that department).  His voice was so strong and he even hit the high notes!  I have no idea what changed from the weak voice that I heard over the summer during some performances (such as the Queen's Jubilee concert) and November, but wow...he sounded like HIM!  The third thing is the songs.  Oh the songs!   One hit song after another.  They just kept coming.   Sure there were songs that I wish he had performed.   But overall.....amazing set list!   My favorites were:  Let me Roll it, Paperback Writer, 1985, Maybe I'm amazed, Blackbird, Dance tonight, Mrs. Vanderbuilt, Lady Madonna and Birthday.

Here is what I didn't like.  The first thing was the ticket prices.   I spent $168 on my ticket.  It wasn't a "bad" seat, but it wasn't close enough for Paul to see me.   To get in one of the front rows, I would have had to have paid $2,000!!!  That is insane!    There is no reason why the tickets need to go so high except for the mere fact that there are crazy people that are willing to pay thousands of dollars on tickets.

The second thing was that  I did not like the performance of the song, "A Day in the Life / Give Peace a Chance."   Well...I mean I liked it, but it was my least favorite performance.   "A Day in the Life" is one of my favorite Beatle songs, and I like how you hear John first and then Paul and then it goes back to John.   Hearing Paul's voice the whole time just didn't seem right.  I have no problems with Paul performing a song that he typically didn't have the lead vocal on (heck John sang "Saw her Standing there" in 1974 on stage), but somehow Paul singing "A Day in the Life" just didn't work for me because the first part is such a John song.   And then Paul didn't sing the last verse.  There were zero holes in the Albert Hall because he jumped into a very long chorus of "Give Peace a Chance."   For some reason this just seemed strange to me.  Maybe if there was a photo tribute to John going on?  I am not sure.  *shrug*

I am still floating on a Macca high and my thought are all jumbled up.   But here are some photos I took at the concert.   The happy part is that I took them, so I own the copyright and I have the rights to post these photos without anyone complaining about it.

How quickly we forget....

Who broke up the Beatles has been long debated among fans for many years and it will continue to be a debate for as long as Beatle fans roam the earth.    Yoko Ono has often been the butt of many jokes considering the Beatles break-up and for many fans she is the soul reason why the break-up occurred.    So this week, Paul has taken to David Frost to set things straight.  Here is the headlines:

So there you have it, straight from Paul McCartney himself, Yoko Ono did not break up the Beatles.   But wait a minutes.   It seems like the same Paul was saying a totally different story in 1971 to the high court and the headlines were quite different back then:

Now I know that 40 years have past between the two headlines and that over time, you can change your mind about things.    As you mature, your view on why things happened can change.   So I believe Paul today in his views on the break-up, however I find it hilarious to see that he once said the exact opposite of what he is saying today.
